Music City Hot Chicken Festival

What’s hotter than the 4th of July?
The annual Music City Hot Chicken Festival celebrating an original Nashville culinary tradition – hot chicken! This free event features the unique southern flare of local restaruants, amateur cooking competition, the Yazoo Brewery beer garden, and of course, legendary Nashville music. The first 500 people will be treated to free hot chicken samples from Prince’s Hot Chicken Shack, The Chicken Shack, 400 Degrees, Pepperfire Hot Chicken, and Bolton’s Spicy Chicken & Fish. After the free bird is gone, you can head over to the food garden and purchase some tasty hot chicken. So plan to join us on Monday, July 4th from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. for an afternoon of hot chicken, hot music, and cool suds!

Friends of Shelby Park and Bottoms is proud to announce the entertainment schedule for this year’s Music City Hot Chicken Festival. There is something HOT for everyone’s tastes! The annual Hot Chicken Festival is the primary fundraiser for Friends of Shelby. This FREE family-friendly event is unique to Nashville (nobody does Hot Chicken like us!) and is the perfect way to kick off your July 4th activities (claim your spot in East Park before the fireworks start downtown!).

Please join us in celebrating the 4th in the hottest way possible – support your community and help us raise funds to improve Shelby Park. It’s OUR festival for OUR park!

12:00 noon – Welcome by Vice Mayor Diane Neighbors, greetings from DJs of WRVW The River and WUBT The Beat

12:15 – Singer Wendy Jans (solo), singer-songwriter with a soul-pop-jazz sound

1:10 – change bands

1:25 – Eileen Rose, with guitar and snare (3 performers), a little bit country/rock

2:20 – change bands

2:35 – Centennial Hiptet – straight ahead jazz

3:00 – 3:15 – Amateur Hot Chicken Contest winner announced – Ralph Schulz

3:15 – Centennial Hiptet resumes

3:50 – change bands

4:05 – Kevin Ball and The Busters – blues

5:00 – end

The Annual July 4th Hot Chicken Festival at East Park is the primary fundraiser for Friends of Shelby Park (beer sales). This year’s festival will be a bit longer than previous years; and if you’ve been before, you know it continues to grow in size. As a result, we need more volunteers than in previous years and we are very short on bodies at this time. Please consider volunteering for one of the time slots below.

Please note the volunteer time slots are only 2 hours long. When your slot is over, you can continue to enjoy the festival.

Nashville’s fourth annual 4th of July Hot Chicken festival is gearing up for another celebration of all that’s hot about Nashville. As always, volunteers are a critical ingredient.

The festival’s hours have been extended this year from Noon – 5:00 p.m. which means we’ll need extra volunteers. You, and anyone you can encourage to join us, will be especially appreciated this year.

There are many volunteer positions available and volunteers willing to do “whatever” are also greatly appreciated. If you’d like to join the volunteer corps this July 4th, e-mail kate@partneringservices.com and indicate which activity and time slot you’d like.

Here are this year’s volunteer positions and shifts:

Event set-up (10:00 – NOON)
Event clean-up (5:00 – 6:30)
T-shirt & souvenir sales (Noon -1:45, 1:45 – 3:30 & 3:30 – 5:00)
Beer Garden sales, serving and ID check (Noon -1:45, 1:45 – 3:30 & 3:30 – 5:00)
Non-alcoholic beverage sales (Noon -1:45, 1:45 – 3:30 & 3:30 – 5:00)
Children’s activities, including inflatables and face painting (Noon -1:45, 1:45 – 3:30 & 3:30 – 5:00)
Hot Chicken samples (11:00-1:00)
Entertainment area (Noon -1:45, 1:45 – 3:30 & 3:30 – 5:00)
Trash Patrol (Noon -1:45, 1:45 – 3:30 & 3:30 – 5:00)
Volunteer tent (10:00-Noon, Noon-1:45 & 1:45-3:30)
Watermelon giveaway (11:00-1:00 & 1:00-3:00)

About the Music City Hot Chicken Festival:

As always, the Music City Hot Chicken Festival is a free event featuring hot chicken and other local culinary delights, professional & amateur cooking competitions, face painting and inflatables for the kids, the Yazoo Brewery Beer Garden for the grownups, and home-grown Nashville music. The festival is held on Sunday, July 4th in East Nashville’s own East Park at 700 Woodland Street.

The first 500 festival attendees are treated to free hot chicken samples. After the free bird is gone, there’s more hot chicken available for purchase and lots of other food specialties both hot and cold.

It’s a fabulous, unique-to-Nashville event that has become a 4th of July tradition for many Nashvillians. Join us!

What’s hotter than the Fourth of July? The annual Music City Hot Chicken Festival celebrating an original Nashville culinary tradition on Sunday, July 4, from noon – 4 p.m. at East Park on Woodland Street. This free community event benefits Friends of Shelby Park and features the unique southern flare of local restaurants and puts amateur cooks head-to-head in competition for the best hot chicken recipe.

The fiery festivities feature free samples from Bolton’s Spicy Chicken and Fish, The Chicken Shack and Prince’s Hot Chicken Shack to name a few, as well as entertainment and activities for the entire family.

The event will feature an amateur chicken cooking contest with 6 contestants being judged by our participating famous Hot Chicken Shack owners.

Friends of Shelby Park and Bottoms is seeking your help in recruiting corporate sponsors for this event which is the primary annual fundraiser for FOS. Nashville’s totally unique 4th of July festival is gearing up for another great event and as always, volunteers are crucial.

This year we’ve extended the festival’s hours from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. — more fun, more hot chicken — and we’ll need extra man and woman power.

The festival is held July 4 in East Nashville’s own East Park on Woodland Street. Proceeds from the festival benefit Friends of Shelby Park and Bottoms.
